Support this German proposal to ban U.S. nuclear weapons out of Europe !

Is NATO Nuclear Policy changing?
Send an email NOW to make it happen!

bomspotting

The presence of US nuclear weapons in Europe is coming under pressure! The Belgian Senate recently asked for a removal of the nuclear weapons, and now the German minister of defence wants to put the withdrawal on the NATO agenda. But this is not yet reality.
First Germany will consult the other European countries that host US nuclear weapons. If we leave this issue up to the NATO diplomats, this proposal will probably be silently dropped. Public pressure is needed NOW! Tell the Belgian government that it has to support the initiative of the German government.

Bombspotting and Forum voor Vredesactie have organised an e-mail action to support the withdrawal. Use this website to send a letter to the German and Belgian ministers of foreign affairs and defence: write your letter

Dear sirs,

the German minister of defense Mr. Struck announced that he will put the withdrawal of the US nuclear weapons from Europe on the NATO agenda, after consultations with those NATO member states that also have US nuclear weapons deployed on their territory. We ask you to support this proposal.

The use of one of these nuclear weapons would lead to the massive destruction of human life, and would be impossible without violating the rules of international humanitarian law. The use of all these weapons, which are only a small part of the US nuclear arsenal, would cause a nuclear winter, a type of climate change much more severe than the greenhouse effect.

No danger or threat can justify the continued presence of these nuclear weapons. The withdrawal of these nuclear weapons is a matter of common sense. By supporting this proposal you assure that no member state stands isolated in dealing with this issue.

The NPT demands progress on disarmament issues as well as non-proliferation. The withdrawal of the US nuclear weapons from Europe could be the start of a new disarmament process. For this reason we ask you to avoid the danger that this proposal becomes buried in working groups and long consultation procedures.

Yours sincerely,

Dear sirs,

I welcome the announcement of Mr. Struck that he will put the withdrawal of the US nuclear weapons out of Europe on the NATO agenda, after consultations of the member states that also have these nuclear weapons deployed on their territory. I hope you will effectively put this proposal forward, and I have also asked your Belgian colleagues to support it.
